Thai and Australian Regulators to Address Cannabis Frameworks at Agential Cannabis 2026

Only 7 weeks until doors open at BITEC, Bangkok — 50+ speakers confirmed, with VIP tickets for both evening events and exhibition space now limited.

Agential Cannabis 2026 is now just seven weeks away. APAC’s B2B medicinal cannabis expo and conference runs 23–24 September 2026 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). With more than 50 speakers confirmed and capacity limited, delegates are encouraged to secure passes, flights and accommodation.

Government regulators from Thailand and Australia will speak at the event.

For the last 2 years Australia has been the primary destination for Thai medicinal cannabis exports, and four regulators from both ends of that trade will present and take questions. An operator has been through the licensing process once, but these are the people who have assessed everyone’s. Cannabis rules are complex, uneven and periodically revised, and treating them as a simple checklist is how applications stall.

Tewan Thaneerat, Deputy Director-General, DTAM (Thailand) — where Thailand’s medicinal cannabis framework stands, and where policy is heading.
Sirichai Thaworn, Director of Plant Variety Regulatory Group, Division of Agricultural Regulation, DOA (Thailand) — Thailand’s import and export of medicinal cannabis.
Avi Rebera, Assistant Secretary, ODC (Australia) — regulatory frameworks, medicinal cannabis policy, international trade and compliance.
Katherine Clark, Director, TGA (Australia) — GMP certification, manufacturing quality, and product registrations.

A program carrying four senior regulators says something about the audience too: the licence holders, applicants, exporters and manufacturers who have to work inside these frameworks. As of 10 June 2026, Thailand had 266 GACP-certified farms — up from around 150 in late 2025 — alongside 38 licensed extraction facilities and four licensed exporters of high-THC cannabis extracts, following the ministerial regulations that took effect in April 2026. At the retail end, standalone dispensaries are giving way to licensed medical facilities, with cannabis prescribed or dispensed by authorised practitioners and sourced from certified farms. The Cannabis and Hemp Act is still to come.

Headline Sponsor Austranna will host the official VIP Welcome Reception on the evening of 23 September. The Queensland-based licensed cultivator and manufacturer brings three senior voices to the program: CEO Bryan Ebstyne on AI, automation, robotics and GMP in controlled environment agriculture; Head of Cultivation Jesus Diaz on cultivation scale-up, yield optimisation and operational readiness; and Head of Quality and Compliance Nicolas Pougnet on GMP compliance, quality systems and TGA and PIC/S readiness.

“The people who write the rules and the people who operate under them are rarely on the same program. Having DTAM, the Department of Agriculture and Australia’s regulators presenting in Bangkok — at the exact moment Thailand’s framework has been rewritten — is what makes this event worth the flight. We’ll be sharing what we’ve learned building an automated GMP facility in Queensland, and we’ll be listening just as hard,” said Bryan Ebstyne, CEO of Austranna.

The conference program features 50+ confirmed speakers from more than 15 countries, with the lineup expected to pass 60. Sessions run across five tracks: markets, export and distribution regulations; high-tech cultivation, post-harvest, extracts and formulation; genetics and breeding; product quality, QA compliance and traceability; and therapeutics and clinical-facing research. Dedicated business matching sessions run on both days.

Across delegates, speakers and exhibitors, close to 60% of confirmed participants are cultivators and licensed producers — a concentration of operators rarely seen at a cannabis event, which puts the farms and facilities supplying the region in the room. Silver Sponsor HY-GEN Nutrients joins from Australia, with Founder Sandro Bombardieri presenting on heavy metal contamination, nutrient quality and compliant cultivation inputs. Thai Stick, together with KAYF, also joins as Silver Sponsor and co-hosts the After Party with Agential Cannabis.

Beyond the conference floor, two evening events anchor the networking program. Austranna hosts the VIP Welcome Reception on 23 September at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, and the official After Party on 24 September takes over Sing Sing Theater — one of Bangkok’s most distinctive venues — for an evening of professional networking to close the event. VIP places at both evenings are strictly limited and allocated in order of booking.

Come briefed. For anyone following cannabis genetics, the long-awaited finale of the three-part Cannabis Inherits Its Future series publishes next week;
Part 1 and Part 2 are up now. On extracts, Thailand’s export pathway. On sourcing, finding GACP-certified farms. And for a synopsis of the Thai framework, what international operators keep getting wrong.

Registration is open at agentialcannabis.com/register. A limited number of exhibition stands and sponsorship opportunities remain for companies looking to put their business in front of APAC’s medicinal cannabis industry.
